South side, Kauai! Dec 2014

We spent a week in December 2014 in Kauai, Hawaii.
Hawaii has always been high on my must see list, so I was really excited to get there!

We chose Kauai because it is still highly undeveloped, there are lots of little towns along the main road running around the coast, but most of the island is lush jungle, with trails leading along mountains and valleys.
We had beach days, hiking days, a kayak day and we even learned to surf!  We visited Kauai Coffee and took the Allerton Garden tour.  What a great week!
This first post has some photos of the Allerton Garden tour, and Spouting Horn, both are on the southside of the island of Kauai.

This is a shot of Spouting Horn, a spot in the rocks where the waves cause water to shoot straight up.

And then some views from the Allerton Garden Tour.

Below is a shot of a Monkey pod tree... they are all over the island, and they are one of my new favourite trees.

Look at that canopy!

Loved this little beauty.

I LOVED seeing this huge alocacia growing wild!

The bamboo was stunning!  Check out the colour!

These are Morton Bay Fig trees, with such gorgeous roots!!
